UFOFU
UFOFU Formed in 1993, year my first son
was born and disbanded in 1997.  The band
included bassist/vocalist/ pianist Brandon
Curtis (played with Captain Audio, and now
with The Secret Machines), his brother
drummer Ben Curtis (played with Tripping
Daisy, and now with The Secret Machines),
and ex-Ludichrist Joe Butcher (guitar, vocals
now plays with Polyphonic Spree).
Shameless plug for all these guys – watch for
them and their new bands because they are
not to be missed, what began here has just
been expanded upon and getting better.  So
back to the release … my ex-husband came
home with music from these guys while I was
in a pregnant state with our second son.
Needless to say these guys rocked the
house, babies included. I think this is one of
Direct Hit's coolest releases. We pressed the
music on one side of the wax and then Sean
worked his silk screen magic on the "non-
recorded" side of the record. The first
pressing was on clear vinyl so the screen
printed side could
SHINE through. All the
guys in the band got into the action, and our
patio became a huge silk screen factory. This
was a family handmade slice of art melding
with music.  On the second pressing which
was black vinyl, Sean stepped out and printed
several designs in assorted colors.  I had
mixed feelings all during this release, seeing
as I was pregnant and a lot of junk use was
going on all around me.  One of the best
outcomes of this project was the friendship
that was forged with the bands 4th honorary
band member Colin Klingman, who went on to
play with The Stingrays. Colin was and still is
one of Direct Hits biggest supporters.
